    What is Season?

A time-bounded competition period in gamification systems, after which scores reset and new competition begins.

A season is a defined time period (typically monthly or quarterly) during which gamification competition takes place. At season end, standings are recorded, winners recognized, and scores reset for the next season.

    Benefits of Seasons

Fresh starts: New team members or those who struggled get a clean slate.

Urgency: Time limits encourage participation before season ends.

Celebration: Season endings create natural moments to recognize top performers.

Engagement cycles: The reset prevents long-term leaders from becoming unbeatable.

    Season Duration

    Common durations:

  1. Monthly: High urgency, frequent resets
  2. Quarterly: Balances urgency with time to build standings
  3. Annual: Less common, can lead to disengagement
  4. Season Transitions

    At season end:

  5. Capture final leaderboard standings
  6. Announce winners via Slack or email
  7. Archive season data for historical analysis
  8. Reset all virtual currency balances
  9. Begin new season with announcement
